Looking for something for the whole family this summer?

 

Join Age UK Herefordshire & Worcestershire on 1st August at Worcestershire County Cricket Club to help raise funds and have fun at the summer Dance-A-Thon. Take on four different dance styles throughout the hour with seated options for those who require it. Dance your way to making a positive impact as funds raised will help people:

 

  • Live well with dementia
  • Live independently for longer
  • Stay socially and physically active
  • Get the advice & support they need to live better

Big Conversation – Visibility and Accessibility

Following PCC John Campion’s Big Conversation with the Temporary Chief Constable of West Mercia Police, Alex Murray, each section of the 90-minute discussion will take a focus in a brand new series over the coming weeks.

In this week’s clip, PCC John Campion is focusing on the topic you told us is your biggest priority – seeing more police officers visible and accessible in your community.

Police officer numbers are at record numbers in West Mercia, but it’s important you feel and see the benefit of this increase.

In the Big Conversation, the PCC and West Mercia Police’s Temporary Chief Constable discussed plans to improve visibility now, and in the future whilst balancing resources to address crime behind closed doors and ever-changing threats in the online world.

Natural world exhibition and workshop

Lino print artist Pauline Meade, is exhibiting a series of works inspired by the outdoors throughout the seasons. The exhibition runs until Sunday 14 July.

Visitors to the gallery will also have the opportunity to see Pauline creating her latest works.   Prints are available to buy in the gift shop.

Pauline will also be running a lino print workshop on the Wednesday 17 July from 10.30am to 12.30pm.  During the session you will cut and print a design in one colour. More details and how to book are available on the website.

Ask the Expert

We are putting on a fabulous free event on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 July. You can find out about rocks and fossils from a team of geologists and bring your specimens for identification! Pop along any time between 10.30am and 1pm on both days.

Weekly Fraud Update from West Mercia Police – Economic Crime Unit 02/07/2024

DON’T LET SCAMMERS RUIN YOUR HOLIDAY

Scammers can operate all around the world. So, it’s important to keep your card and card details safe when travelling. International card fraud losses for 2023 were £134.5 million.

 

BEFORE YOU GO OVERSEAS: 
•    Make sure your card company has your up-to-date contact details.
•    Ensure you have your card company’s 24-hour telephone number with you in case you need to contact them.
•    Only take cards you intend to use, leave the others securely at home.

 

WHEN YOU ARE OVERSEAS: 
•    Don’t let your card out of sight, especially at restaurants and bars.
•    Don’t give your PIN to anyone, even if they claim to be the police or your card company.
•    Shield your PIN when typing it in.
•    Check your bank transactions when you can to see if there’s anything unfamiliar.
•    Look after all your other belongings like passports, wallets, purses, travel and ticket information.

WHEN YOU GET BACK:
•    Check your bank and card statements for any unfamiliar transactions. If you do spot any, report them to your bank immediately.

STOP:            Taking a moment to stop and think before parting with your money or information could keep you safe.
CHALLENGE: Could it be fake? It’s OK to reject, refuse or ignore any requests. Only criminals will try to rush or panic you.
PROTECT:      Contact your bank immediately if you think you’ve fallen for a scam and report it to Action Fraud

ALWAYS REMEMBER:
•    Avoid disclosing security details
•    Emails, Phone Calls and Texts may not be authentic
•    Always make direct contact with any organisation by using a genuine phone number
•    Stop and Challenge any unexpected requests
•    Protect others by reporting Fraud and Scams

If you think your bank account or personal banking details have been used fraudulently, then use the short phone number – 159 – to contact the Fraud Prevention Department of most major UK banks.

Enjoy the charm of Beatrix Potter

We are delighted to be able to bring Quantum Theatre’s latest production to our Green Theatre. It is a new adaptation of the much-loved story – The Tale of Jemima Puddle Duck.

Join us for this charming show on Sunday 7 July at 5pm. Tickets cost £10 for children and £15 for adults.

Bring your picnic chairs, blankets and picnics, or you can buy food and drink from the Garden Kitchen Cafe.

Cherry Fayre Time

The Cherry Fair is back this July, bringing live entertainment to the museum. We’re celebrating the fact Bewdley was once a centre for a flourishing cherry trade and has a long history of Cherry Fayres in the town. There will be 1940s re-enactors, classic cars, craft stalls and of course cherries!

Adopt a Street

Students from Blakedown Primary School are taking pride in their area. They are setting up a new litter picking club and we are happy to be able to support them by providing equipment. We met with their teacher Mrs Smith to hand over everything they need to get started.

If you are thinking of ways to make a difference in your local community why not join our Adopt a Street scheme? All you need to do is promise to litter pick at least three times a year in your chosen area. We will provide you with equipment.

We are also supporting a new litter picking group in Bewdley. They are meeting for the first time on Thursday 4 July at St Anne’s Church, Load Street at 9.30am. The 40 minute pick will be followed by a coffee morning. It is open to all and the volunteer-led group is planning to make it a regular event on the first Thursday of the month.

Our series of free summer concerts in the bandstands at Stourport Riverside and in Brinton Park, Kidderminster gets underway later this month. On Sunday 21 July Bewdley Concert Band will be performing at Stourport and we have the Steve King Big Band at Brinton Park on Sunday 28 July. There will be music in the parks then every Sunday between 2pm and 4pm until Sunday 1 September.
