Thefts from vans spark reminder to guard against thieves
A seasonal spike in thefts from vehicles has prompted an appeal from officers in north Worcestershire to be on your guard against thieves and burglars.
This morning (Thursday 5 December) three vans were broken into – in Stourport, Clows Top and Bromsgrove – where offenders have stolen tools and high value equipment.
In other recent incidents, thieves have gained entry by either smashing a window or drilling a lock. Wallets are also being left in vehicles containing bank cards, driving licences and cash and these are also being taken.
Detectives investigating the thefts are urging van drivers not to leave tools in their vans overnight and take precautions to deter thieves who take advantage of the darker nights to commit crimes.
We recommend using property marking kits on your equipment and remote tagging devices linked to a mobile phone which can be discreetly hidden in your vehicles to help police track them should they be stolen too.

Detective Constable Fiona Millership of North Worcestershire CID said: “Our message to van drivers and vehicle owners in general is ‘Secure it or lose it’.
“There is often a spike in thieves and burglars targeting cars and vans during darker nights, but just by following the prevention advice in the link above you can take steps to protect your property and vehicles.
“It goes without saying not to leave wallets or valuable items on show and never leave tools or expensive equipment in your van overnight.”
