ROAD SAFETY ” BE SEEN!”
ROAD SAFETY ” BE SEEN!”
Be Safe Be Seen
With the evenings continuing to draw in, all road users are asked to think about their visibility on the roads. Cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders are encouraged to wear high visibility clothing and reflective material to ensure they can be seen.
Cyclists must ensure their bike carries front and rear lights, which are used at night. Motorists should check lights are in good working order, and are urged to look carefully for other road users.
Give other road users space when passing
Take extra care when overtaking cyclists, horses or pedestrians. The Highway Code was updated earlier this year and the changes introduced aim to improve safety for people walking, cycling and horse riding:
Pass horse riders and horse-drawn vehicles at speeds under 10mph and allow at least 2 metres of space.
When travelling at up to 30mph, leave at least 1.5 metres when overtaking cyclists, and give more space at higher speeds.
Allow at least 2 metres of space and keep to a low speed when passing people walking on the road.
Witnessed dangerous driving? Report it.
Any road user who has footage of any type of dangerous driving or a close pass incident can submit this through the force’s Operation Snap portal and this will be viewed and actioned as appropriate by a police officer. Visit www.westmercia.police.uk/operationsnap
