Reminder that trick or treating is fun for some but can be scary for others

Please be ‘frightfully thoughtful’ of others if you are planning to take part in Halloween trick or treating and be extra ‘s-careful’ when visiting people’s homes.

That is the message from West Mercia Police this spooky time of year when seasonal revellers, particularly children and young people, enjoy the chance to dress up and go trick or treating.

However, while Halloween is a fun time for many, it can leave others feeling worried or intimidated, or simply not wanting to be visited by trick or treaters.

Superintendent Brian Gibbs said: “Halloween is a fun and exciting time of year for many families with children who will want to take part in trick or treating.

“However, while we don’t want to spoil anyone’s enjoyment, we are asking if you plan on trick or treating that you are mindful of others who may not want to get involved, as trick or treaters can sometimes leave some people feeling worried or intimidated.

“As ever, we will have an increased police presence throughout the evening during Halloween with officers carrying out high visibility patrols in key areas to ensure those who are out and about can enjoy Halloween safely.

“If anyone does have any concerns while they are out trick or treating, whether it be anti-social or suspicious behaviour then I would encourage them to report this to us via our website Report A Crime

“Residents can also sign up to our free Neighbourhood Matters website, which allows communities to raise concerns directly with their local policing team about anti-social behaviour and crime in their area.”
