Neighbourhood Matters – PCC calls on Government to maximise criminal justice system before breaking the foundations

“Prison should be a deterrent, by watering down punishments, victims will question whether they have got the justice they deserve, and communities will ask whether sentences match the crime.”

PCC John Campion has released a statement following the publishing of the Leveson review which sets out a series of proposals to reform the criminal courts.

It includes:

Increase in sitting days by only 8% in West Mercia with outstanding cases hitting 1,600

Reducing maximum sentences by 40% for guilty pleas

Removal of jury trials for some cases that would usually go through the Crown Court
