Home Security Advice
Police are offering homeowners security advice following a recent spate of burglaries in North Worcestershire – during which offenders have snapped Euro Profile locks to break in and steal car keys.
Sergeant Daniel Townsend, from the North Worcestershire Problem Solving Hub, said: “We recommend if you have this sort of lock to replace it with a three star anti snap lock. This is at a very low cost compared to damage being caused to your property and the potential loss of your vehicle.
In the changing of any locks we would recommend if you need any advice regarding lock types or employing a trusted locksmith to always consult the Master locksmiths Association.
Our preferred specification for a change of any cylinder lock would be a clearly marked three star, anti-snap bump lock.
We would ask that you ensure all keys, including car keys, are out of sight and away from the letterbox, as a device could be used to hook keys through the letterbox.
Always lock your doors and windows where possible when in your property, and also every time you leave the house, even when you’re just out in the garden, remembering to double-lock UPVC doors by lifting the handle and turning the key.”
