Good Afternoon,
Please find attached the Flood Summary Sheet for Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, and Gloucestershire.
The Flood Guidance Statement is currently yellow for Gloucestershire and Worcestershire for today then green for Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, and Gloucestershire for the next 4 days.
Weather Summary
Over the last 24 hours we have seen a widespread 5-10mm mm across the Area, with isolated maximums up to 12mm over the western borders. Today will see a continuation of the blustery showers moving across the Area from the west, with low totals. We
are expecting a widespread 2-4mm, with isolated maximums of up to 15mm for the upper catchments. Saturday will now see isolated showers with lower totals than today, perhaps 2-4mm in isolated places. Sunday will see a new frontal system move in from the south
west by mid-morning, clearing to the east into the evening. This system will largely impact the far south and west of the patch. Rainfall totals from this system have reduced from yesterday’s forecast with widespread totals of 5-10mm in Gloucestershire and isolated
maximums up to 20mm. Next week will see a return to drier weather from Sunday night onwards with high pressure moving in, we are expecting Monday and Tuesday to be dry currently across the whole Area.
Operational activity
1. Frankwell Phase 1 has been deployed this morning.
2. Ironbridge loaded and ready if needed.
3. Bewdley Severn Side North Phase 1 deployed. Phase 2 loaded ready if needed.
4. Kempsey pumping station is pumping. Contingency pumps on site.
5. Upton-upon-Severn New Street, Waterside and Dunns Lane gates are closed.
For the remaining barrier sites, we are closely monitoring the situation and we will update you if the situation changes.
Fluvial summary
Levels are now dropping on most tributaries and the Teme and Wye. The Upper Severn is currently peaking at Crew Green, with the peak expected to work downstream over the weekend. The Mid and Lower Severn will see extended peaks into early next week. Sunday’s rainfall is unlikely to cause any significant re-rises and may attenuate some peaks on the Lower Severn.
Tides
Tides are now increasing with the peak heights forecast for Saturday evening. The tidal alerts are out for Sandhurst and Gloucester Docks today and tomorrow, particularly given the interaction with the tides and the high fluvial flows coming down the Lower Severn. Currently not anticipating any impacts on the Wye estuary.
