Anti-social behaviour

What is antisocial behaviour?
There are three main categories for antisocial behaviour, depending on how many people are affected:
- Personal antisocial behaviour is when a person targets a specific individual or group.
- Nuisance antisocial behaviour is when a person causes trouble, annoyance or suffering to a community.
- Environmental antisocial behaviour is when a person’s actions affect the wider environment, such as public spaces or buildings.
Nuisance noise
Nuisance noise is any loud or persistent noise that causes you ongoing concern or affects your quality of life. Your local council should be your first contact for reporting nuisance noise as this isn’t usually a matter for the police.
If the problem involves noise, such as a loud party or dogs barking, please contact your local council as this isn’t a police matter.
For disagreements over boundary walls, fences, trees or hedges, contact Citizens Advice for free information and support.
In some cases you may also want to contact a solicitor. You can also refer to government guidance on the Party Wall etc Act 1996.
