Bewdley Left Bank Flood Risk Management Project Update 2nd April – 12th April 2024

The following update was provided by the Environment Agency

We have been removing the top layer of the footway along Stourport Road and Kidderminster Road in preparation for the continuation of the piling. We will be remobilising early next week with the installation of the piling mats along Stourport Road and Kidderminster Road, with piling estimated to begin by the end of next week.

There has been considerable preparation work being undertaken in the compound this week. Significant deliveries of stone and cohesive material have been stockpiled in the compound ready for the preparation of the piling mat next to the bridge (Area 1), back fill for drainage excavations at Millside Court (Area 5), and excavations on Stourport Road (Area 3).

Our piling contractors have been fabricating steel reinforcement in the compound in readiness for piling work to come.

We have started to re-site the benches which were next to the bridge in Riverside North Park, and we expect this task to be finished by end of next week.

Cadent Gas have moved into Pleasant Harbour area (Area 0) to undertake utility diversions and are expected to be working in this area for 2 to 3 weeks. This work will require the traffic management to shift from bridge side of the carriageway to the pleasant harbour side for a period of a few days in the middle of the week next week.

River levels have been high again, which has impacted on progress this week in our preparations for future piling work.

The proliferation of underground services has been one of the biggest challenges of working in this part of Bewdley. Although we were able to identify many of the utility services prior to any excavations, undocumented services continue to be a challenge, with many private services being discovered in the working area in recent weeks.
